Most underrated animated movies?
There are a lot of classic animated movies like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Wall-e, but then there are a lot of great ones that either bombed at the box office or have been somewhat overlooked and now are cult movies. Some of these are like:
The Secret of NIMH, The Iron Giant, Sleeping Beauty, The Black Cauldron, The Emperor’s New Groove, and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
Do you have any favorites?
Yeah, Land Before Time was pretty good, although we really could have done without all the crappy sequels.
I love the Fox and the Hound. The scene where Tod is abandoned in the forest gets me every time. Its pretty pretty lol.
Ralph Bakshi’s Lord of the Rings~I saw it in the theater. WOW!
Felidae~I agree! I found it on YouTube and was amazed by it!
Snezhnaya koroleva aka The Snow Queen (1957)
Makaitoshi Shinjuku aka Demon City Shinjuku
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Starchaser: The Legend of Orin
Gandahar aka Light Years
The Weathering Continent
The Mouse and His Child
The Road to El Dorado
The Flight of Dragons
Fire and Ice (1983)
The Hobbit (1977)
The Water Babies
Cats Don’t Dance
The Last Unicorn
Watership Down
Fantastic Planet
Robot Carnival
American Pop
Rock & Rule
Titan A.E.
I’m a child of the Fifties, so I have many fond memories of Disney but also loved other animation. When I saw "The Snow Queen", which is Russian, I remember thinking that I liked their style of animation even more than Disney’s! I would have been about 10 years old when I saw it at a Christmas party and had to wait decades before seeing it again. It amazed me all over again.
